Solution
I'd go with a 1070, a WD hard drive over the Seagate and nix the sound card. I'm also partial to Seasonic power supplies although they make some EVGA supplies so that may be one. Do you require Blu-ray playback or you just want an optical drive? If so you can get a $17 Asus one instead.

So something like this:

I always prefer single-GPU solutions over SLI/Xfire builds. Right now the software support just isn't that good for multi-GPU setups and there's a lot of poor scaling out there. I would opt for a single 1080 (or even a 1070) over 2x RX 480s, which you can still do easily for under $2500. And I would also look into a different power supply, the EVGA G2 or GS models are far superior to the NEX.

Any particular need for the sound card over the onboard audio?

Solution
The NEX isn't one of their Seasonic OEMs. The GS line is made from Seasonic and the G2 line from Superflower. The NEX is an FSP OEM (acronym fest in this sentence) and is based on a group regulated design. Not terrible, but considering a 550w G2 is $2 more, it's no contest.
