So, when im playing valorant, my cpu would power throttle down that causes fps dip from 120 to 70-60 when im playing seriously. from 2ghz to <1.5ghz (yes i did limit to 2ghz to have 100fps without getting too hot). cpu temps are ok for gaming (80c) but then it suddenly throttles the power.

Specs:
i5 8250u
16GB Dual channel
MX 130

i have tried everything from youtube, reddit, techpowerup forums, turning on and of buttons that should solves the issue but i don't know what's wrong. here are the screenshots of the throttlestop

You have PL1 locked and clamped at 4095W .... did you expect the CPU to actually reach that?! It just tells you that it doesn't reach 4095W

Also PP0 is apparently the power limit for all the cpu cores, so in your shoes I would have that un ticked, now it's limited to 100W.
bro i tried everything 🗿. normal PL1, or locked PL1 at 99999999, it's the same.

did PL1 99999 just to try if that removes the limit... i guess not

already tried uncheck and checked pp0 still same result.

believe me im very frustrated from 30-40fps drop that i've tried lots of things and that's the footsteps i left 💀

The 8250U has a 15W TDP power limit. Unfortunately some manufacturers use an embedded controller (EC) to lower the turbo power limits far below 15W. At times your laptop is being limited to less than 9W by the EC power limit.

Why is this? Who knows. You would have to ask the manufacturer of your laptop why. What is your laptop model number so other users that read this can avoid buying a similar laptop from this company.

ThrottleStop cannot be used to fix an EC power limit throttling problem. You need to find a new laptop that is not so poorly designed. If the next laptop you buy shows constant PL1 power limit throttling in the ThrottleStop log file at only 9W, return it immediately for a refund. These kind of problems cannot be fixed.

if anyone's looking for this thread, i found out that the throttling only happens at valorant. that condition is vital to this fix.

i found out that the Nvidia settings for my laptop put power management settings to "Consistent performance" while if you change it to "Maximum performance" the throttling wouldn't happen. here is the image

don't know why the gpu would decide to throttle the cpu but it works now
now how do i mark this question as solved
