Hello,
I am in the market for a ultrawide monitor for my home office. I want to be able to connect my laptop to the monitor with an usb-c cable, transfer video/audio/charging my laptop at the same time. Basically, I want the monitor to be my docking station. I have looked into some monitors, and so far, my ideal monitor would be the Samsung C34J791. However, it has Thunderbolt 3 technology for the purpose of docking my laptop to the screen.
However, my work laptop is a Dell Latitude 5580, which does have a usb-c port for docking, but NOT Thunderbolt 3 support.
Now, my knowledge about these standards are limited, so my questions are:

- Can I still connect my laptop to the Thunderbolt 3 monitor (with the supplied Thunderbolt 3 cable), even though my laptop doesn't support Thunderbolt 3?
- Will it transfer both video and audio, and charge my laptop at the same time?
- If the above are possible, are there any downsides to connecting my 'normal usb-c' laptop to the thunderbolt 3 monitor? Am I missing out on certain functionality / bandwith / etc?
