Hi,
I've been pretty happy with my Logitech "Freedom 2.4" cordless
joystick, but there is an annoyance that pops up every now and again,
and I'm wondering if it could have something to do with the fact that
it's a cordless joystick.
I'll be flying along, and even though I'm holding the stick steady,
the plane's behavior will become erratic, and even the stick in the
VC will bounce around strangely. One of the more common symptoms of
this anomaly is that the plane will want to climb no matter what I do
with the stick, and it will also "bounce" around quite a bit if I try
to use elevator trim to bring it back down. The only real "cure" is
to stop the flight and re-start the sim, and I can then hope that all
will be well again.
I know it's the stick and not the sim, as I can switch on-the-fly to
using my CH yoke for pitch and roll and the problem is gone.
The stick is calibrated, the batteries in the base are fresh, and it
usually works as expected; except for this occasional problem. This
has always bothered me, but now that I've upgraded just about
everything else, and the sim is running better than ever, I'd really
like to finally sort this one out. I've been thinking about moving
on to a wired stick, and even about a force feedback unit.
Since I just spent nearly $800 in upgrades, I'm thinking that I
shouldn't spend a few hundred more dollars on a joystick, but if I
can find a relatively nice force feedback stick for under $100, I may
give it a try.
I've been reading some comparisons between the Microsoft Sidewinder
and the Logitech Force 3D sticks, and though the MS stick sounds
great, it's a bit more than I'd like to spend just now. Can someone
comment on the Logitech WingMan Force 3D stick? Or are there others
I should consider instead?
Thanks!
