I was just wondering:

How long does a corpse stay before it disappears exactly?

Yesterday we had quite a discussion about that after killing a boss in
Scholomance. Three of us were dead (including the healer who wasted
his soulstone) and were forced to run from the graveyard. Meanwhile
one of the survivors just couldn't wait with looting because he feared
the corpse would disappear with all his epic set items. Needless to
say I got struck by the lootbug and didn't see the roll
window. Luckily no important items were dropped.

Personally I never saw a boss' corpse disappear before being looted,
and above mentioned corpse still stayed there until we all ported away
after a lenghty discussion. But the question remains: Has anybody ever
seen a boss corpse vanish *before* it was looted? How long does it take?

As long as the corpse is held open and they haven't changed any
significant code in corpse decay in the last 3 patches, I've held
corpses for upwards for 2 hours.

If its been opened and completely looted it decays in around 5 minutes
If its been opened and then closed it decays in roughly 10 to 15 minutes

Yes.

I think about five minutes. I've seen it happen a few times; discussion
takes so long or the loot is so uninteresting as to go undiscussed for a
while; then, just after discussion of the loot starts, corpse disappears
;)

One time in Scarlet Monestary, I got stuck behind some piece of
furniture in the Library Boss' room. While trying to get me out of it,
the corpse disappeared, unlooted.

Having to run back to the corpse from the instance entrance, especially
if it's partially respawned could very well mean the corpse has gone
before you get to it.

So it's high time they get that bug fixed. I think I missed the roll
window when I entered the instance and was waiting for the percentage
bar to fill up.

Would right clicking the body, without trying to actually get any loot out
of the loot window until the others arrive help here? Or would the simple
act of right clicking before the others arrive already have stuffed them
royally?

Wondering

Assuming you don't have a lootmaster or free-for-all looting,
right-clicking would open the roll window which sometimes doesn't show
if you're dead, outside the instance, or just entering the
instance. I'm not sure in which cases exactly it doesn't show, since
I've heard several opinions about that.

Those who don't see the roll window are treated as if they passed and
thus can't get the item if somebody else rolled for it. Of course if
everybody passes the loot stays in the corpse and you could open the
window without taking anything...

Another time you should learn not to release your spirit. If you haven't
released it you'll be getting your part of the loot and offered to roll
too.

I knew I shouldn't release before the boss is killed to get part of
the loot, but I was told the lootbug occurs also when don't
release. (can't confirm that, it's rare that I'm dead when loot is
distributed, my guildmates are usually quite quick on the
"resurrect"-butten)

I'm used to just having one that can resurect do the ghost-run, unless
mobs have respawned, or we know it's impossible for them to get back
before the auto-release are triggered.

It's much easier to resurrect someone who haven't released, because the
group-icon can be used instead of searching for the body.

Playing a Shaman I also have the self-resurect option (1x pr hour or 45
min with talents), and it has saved me and the parties I've been in for
quite some corpse runs.

Wrong.
There is a bug where sometimes, if you are not there when the corpse
is opened, you cannot loot the corpse - it has no sparklies, and
behaves as if you were not in the group that killed the mob.
