Good evening,

I have a 2 and a half year old rig with a i9-13900K CPU, RTX 4090, 64gb DDR5 RAM, 3tb SSDs, etc, and was wondering if it would make a big difference if I upgrage the i9 to the new Ryzen 9 9950X3D.

I use the PC mostly for gaming.

Best regards

Is the current config not meeting your needs?
What is lacking?

And going to a Ryzen is more than just the CPU.

Just for gaming, getting the 9950X3D might not be worth it. It's not out yet but it might not give much more improvement over the 9800X3D for pure gaming. Of course, if you need gaming AND workstation performance that's another story.

And although benchmarks show a general advantage in games for the 9800X3D over the 13900k (will likely be similar for the 9950X3D), I don't think it worth all the trouble and money to move to the AM5 platform. You gonna have to replace the motherboard and possibly the RAM if you are still on DDR4. According to me, you can wait for the next generation and see if the performance is worth the investment, but right now I don't think it does. Also, the 9950X3D might be very hard to get for a while after launch day. The 9800X3D got released months ago and is still almost impossible to find.
