Hi all.

It's been a while since I last update my kid's gaming PC. We are making a move away from the ryzen 7 3700X, with 8GB X 2, 3600Mhz.

We are plaing on keepiing the motherboard, Asus B450M-PLUS GAMING, with the latest bios version.

The upgrade we are contemplating is as follows;

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
CMW16GX4M2C3200C16, 3200MHz RAM Speed, CAS 16-18-18-36 Timings, 1.35v VDIMM (32GB)

Our biggest worry is will these thre components work well together? Will they be compatable? More so, is it worth to go to AMD Rysen 9 5950X at double the price?

The graphic card we have is a RTX 3060 12GB about a year old. (We are aiming at updating it soon to a 4070 once the prices drop a bit more, especialy now with the release of the new 5090.

Any pointers on this are much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,
Albert

Hi all.

The final list of components is here...

AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D Eight Core 4.1GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail
Montech KING 95 PRO Black Mid Tower Dual Chamber Case with 6 ARGB Fans and 10 Port ARGB Hub
Montech AX120 PWM Black 120mm ARGB Case Fan X3
DeepCool AK620 Digital ARGB Tower Air Cooler - R-AK620-BKADMN-G
Kingston FURY Renegade DDR4 RGB Memory
  • Part Number: KF436C16RB12AK2/32
  • Total Capacity: 32GB (2x16GB)
  • Memory Profile: 3600MT/s 16-20-20 1.35V

Trying to keep the kid happy, some changes have been made, dropped the memory from 64GB to 32GB, his PC currently has only 16GB 3200, and the cooler has too been changed. The PC case is a bit fancy but he's happy. Later, maybe in 6 months time around Summer we can get a great price on a RTX 4070 Super or better even. But for now, this will do.

I'd like to say a huge thank you to all of you that have given your input, help and time to help, it is much appreciated.

Many thanks to you all.

Regards,
Albert

if your going to be sticking to your current motherboard, and not upgrade again for 2 or more years.. and its mainly for gaiming look at the 5800 cpu ,, and downgrading ram speed would not be recommended. , you have 16gb(2x8gb) 3600.. why nor just but another pair of the same ram and boot it to 32gb(2x8,2x8), or still get the 32gb new ram, but get 3600 then you would have 48gb (2x8,2x16).

just for your piece of mind. go to pc partpicker and check prices. for the above mentioned upgrade. get a price... and see if you can get am5 cpu(r5 7500f,r5 7600 or r7 7700), 32bg ddr5 5600mts ram (2x16gb) and and am5 motherboard. they should be similar in price. and still work with your 3060 gpu until you upgrade that..
and if you went am5 route you could sell your current parts to get extra cash for upgrade
