I'm planning to build my own gaming PC with a budget of approximately $2000 for all parts including the monitor and keyboard.

Here's what I'm thinking of having in the build:
CPU: i5-6600k $240
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 $700
RAM: G.SKILL TridentZ DDR4-3200 16GB (2x8GB) $92
SSD (Main storage): Samsung 950 PRO (256GB) $190
HDD: Seagate Barracuda (1TB) $45
Fans: 3 x Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition $23 each
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i v2 $105
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 80+ GOLD $110

The total of these items comes up to $1551 meaning that I only have $449 left to spend on the motherboard, case, monitor and keyboard (I already have a mouse and headset). I'm looking for recommendations on these parts to fit my budget (can extend it by $100 or so if needed). Any changes you'd recommend for my build would also be appreciated.

Thanks!

I was thinking of going for 1440p as well but is it worth it to go for 1440p with 60hz instead of 1080p with 144hz? I don't know much about monitors but I don't want to end up having screen tearing after buying the 60hz monitor. I'm primarily going to use it for first/third person shooters so I want it to be as smooth as possible.

I'm also confused about which version of the GTX 1080 I should buy. I've heard that the EVGA and MSI variants are good but I have no idea how to compare them. Can someone tell me what the differences are and if its worth spending $650-700 to buy an EVGA/MSI card instead of an ASUS card for $600?

Honestly, I think you are spending a bit much, in other areas, as well, after giving it some more thought. For a $2k build, with monitor, I would look at something more like this.
