I have a crosshair vii hero (non-wifi) and a ryzen 5 2600.

For some reason to turn on my pc i have to press the start button on the motherboard. Whist the pc is turned of the lights of the motherboard are on. Only when I turn the psu switch off does the lights go out.

It's a annoyance to turn on the pc like this. I've had a look at bios however this is my first build and I'm a bit of a newbie.

Any help would be great.

Thanks!

The lights stay on when the computer in off. This is normal. They are status lights like on your TV. The only way to have them off is to turn power off to the motherboard, such as switching the psu off. There may also be a BIOS option to disable the lights.

Now the problem where you need to press the button on the motherboard to turn the PC on is because of either of 2 situations. The power button on the case is broken. Or the connector from the power button is not in the right spot on the header of the motherboard. There is no polarity on the buttons so don't worry about positive and negative. As lone as it's over the 2 pins for the power switch.

If the power button is broken on the case, you can take the reset switch and...

If the power button is broken on the case, you can take the reset switch and plug it into the power switch header of the motherboard. Use the reset switch to power on the PC.

I just got on my pc to try what you recommended but something weird happend. I just tried my start button on the case and instead of turning it off (I already had it on at this point) it reset the pc. Have I plugged it in wrongly?
