I will preface this by saying , sure , if money was no object, question answered! Unfortunately money is a very rare commodity and must be wisely managed in this man's life if I dont want to end up sleeping in the gutter one day,. There is nowhere to plug in my rig besides living there.
Here are the numbers:
Currently own a premade IBUYPOWER rig purchased in 2019. It has been remarkably trouble free and have never witnessed any issues on my screen playing all the big games out there.
LGA1151 socket MB with Core i7-8700 cpu.
Nvidia Geforce 2070
16MB ram
With the icing on the cake being a SAMSUNG 49-inch Odyssey G9 Gaming Monitor
Again, I really don't have issue playing anything I own currently at full 5120x1440 resolution. My Steam library is quite vast and has many of the latest games out there:
Elden Ring
Call of Duties
Far Crys
GTA5
Red Dead Redemption 2
Resident Evil 4
God of War
And now today have just purchased Baldur's Gate 3 , which actually got me thinking about what I am thinking I want to do hardware upgrade wise. I guess my main question to you all is whether you think this would be cost effective versus giving it to my son and buying a new rig with today's standards.
I called IBUYPOWER and got them to pull up my rig and let me know how far I can go upgrade wise on my MB. I just searched around on Amazon and here is what I came up with:
Intel Core i9-9900 $300
ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3060 Twin Edge OC 12GB GDDR6 $330
Corsair Vengance DD4-2666 32GB ram $65
Crucial BX500 2TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5-Inch Internal SSD (I simply need more storage as well and good Lord, I have not been keeping up with times, a 2TB SSD nowadays for...wow!) $100
Existing powersupply is good to go at 650W strong, and actually will use a bit less power due to advanced technology offered to these newer GPU cards.
So Amazon is telling me it's going to get me $800 closer to living in that gutter I alluded to in the beginning.
My question gentlemen and ladies,
Does this make economic sense? Knowing that something new will probably end up costing in the 2K range.
And does it make technical sense to do this upgrade and buy some time as well as be better armed for any future game that wants to test my limits?
Amazon prime makes it an easier decision spreading out the bill over 6 months. So there is that as well.
Any other suggestions are mostly welcomed unless I don't agree with them. Lol!
Carry on !
