ToM rules - What are the chances

since CV got a "home rom" from the same designer as Theatre of magic, what
are the chances of ToM getting a home rom with a rewritten "wizard" mode
someday?

i just got one of these machines and I love the theme, artwork and shot
layout and think it's fun as hell, but after getting to grande finale and
seeing how lacking it is, I'm not sure I want to play anymore.

I'm a player that likes to work to complete modes and finish things to be
REWARDED with a cool mode like DTR in LOTR, LITZ in TZ and BFTK in MM or
even workng up the stiff-o-meter in SS.

With a cool mode, working to complete all those modes is rewarding. ToM is
NOT rewarding!

Opinions? I know it's kind of a subjective question, but would like input
before I dump it and go for something else.

Also, knowing i like the 4 previously mentioned games, what would you
suggest to add to that collection? AFM? MB?

I'm with you. Reward is key. I have never thought of DTR as a reward,
but I guess it is. You'll tire of MB quickly. Stay awayfrom that one.
AFM's Rule the Universe is a reward, albeit somewhat weak. Have you
thought of Elvis? For all the talk of it as easy, it's hard to
complete Graceland, and I know of nobody who's done it. It's held my
interest, and that's no small feat.

I think you've got your ToM set up too easy. I rarely get to the "end"
of ToM and everyone knows I am a pro-class player. ;)

I think Tom is Kind of similar to Totan. Both games have wizard modes
that are relatively low key and maybe easier to attain than most, but
Tom and Totan are grinder machines, you grind your score out over a few
hours hitting the Wizard mode again and again - real stamina to get a
good score. I kind of like these machines for that reason.

Although both designed by John Popadiuk, the software were done by two
TOTALLY different designers. Cameron Silver did CV and Jeff Johnson did (or
shall I say tried to do) ToM.

From what I have heard about JJ, it's a wonder ToM even got the software to
the point it's at now. So GOOD LUCK getting it fixed and finished. It
truely could of been a great game with the artwork, dots and music, but the
software made it mediocre at best. I had mine for about a year and a half
and it was time for it to go.

I know to Each his Own, But ToM just plain gives me a Work-out !!,, I
mean its almost a full time job for me to keep the game going & after
one or 2 Games, I have to give it a rest !!!

FWIW,, If a Pinball was made to easy, It wouldnt make money on a route
& thats what it was made for,,

explained ;-)

So who here on RGP is capable of creating a "home ROM" that has
tigersaw support and a re-written Wizard Mode? I would be willing to
pay to help create one if that is the sticking point. I have got
absolutely no idea as to what is involved to create such a thing but
there must be someone on here who knows how to do it. How much time
would have to be invested in such a project?

Given that an "unofficial" ToM 1.4 ROM with built-in support for the
tigersaw in multiple modes has been created and just recently been
verified to be out there, who knows what other stuff was added to it?

I'd like to know.

It probably *could* be done...it's not the time or the money, but the
programming that's the tough part. Evidently there is someone (Leon?) that
has done some program changes, but for the broadbase ROM libraray of
WPC/WPC95 games there really have been no significant rule changes to any of
the games.

Even though I would love to see some bugs cleaned up and some modes added, I
also know the bastardization that would occur to most of the ROMS. So I
think we should just leave the game ROMS alone.

I can get to the end if i'm lucky, but i never completed the mode..
It's just too much stress and usually i am on my last ball...

Maybe if i completed the mode someday, i'd be less stressed
about getting it, and it will be easier.

I still love my TOM after owning it for 4 years. The theme, loops, and
design are fantastic. I agree, the wizard mode is a letdown.

I think the TOM wizrd is way better than the TOTAN, which I got rid of
some time ago.

I would love to see someone update the software, but realistically it
might not happen. John P - C'mon, this would be a worthwhile project!

There is no way I will be selling my TOM, since I think it is a
gorgeous and fast playing little baby. It plays like a Porche 911, even
though it doesn't have the meat that a LOTR or TSPP or even lesser
games have.

Isn't John working on gambling/gaming machines these days?
