This is one of the multiple advantages of Android over iOS.

I use ES File Explorer and Root Explorer (which requires root). The later has a non-root alternative, called simply Explorer, which has about the same functionality except for file/folder permission editing (I believe) and some other stuff that needs root access.

You can grant ES file explorer root access as well. Why would you use the inferior root explorer when ES file explorer can do everything root explorer can?
 


I guess it's a matter of personal preference.
