i think amd will live up to the hype as the intel be & the stage they cant do no more & end up stanagant where amd has been over the years playing catch up hope the new amd cores go well be keen to try even tho been an intel avid user

Tbh in my experience nothing lives up to the hype people create. But with their new RX 400 videocard series they have kind of amazed me what they can pull off with their hardware for such a price, so I think AMD's next-gen Zen core microarchitecture will amaze us in the CPU department. But in the end, the hype will always be too big.

honestly if AMD do actually learnt from previous botch ups over the many years be handy to see a bit of a diffrence tho everything i own is Intel i series various gens as well & stunned how much oomph they have if AMD can match the mainstream i3 or i5s including hyperthreading but be good with drivers like intel has been for so far they will give intels a run be worth a try if amd has learnt & improved as if its a decent core design & aritecture they can only get better or worse being new tho be a few teething problems

I do not believe that Zen will live up to the hype. Sadly.

The only way for AMD to become current would be to severely undercut Intel prices.

The problem facing AMD is the fact that many games are starting to utilize the massive performance reserves available in high-end Intel chips. The pressure to provide performance on par with Intel will continue to grow.

The new Nvidia GPUs are starting to slightly shift the focus of performance back towards CPUs.

Will AMD's next-gen Zen core microarchitecture live up to the hype?

Short answer no.

It's been an extremely long time since AMD lived up to the hype on anything related to it's CPUs and is the reason they've fallen so far behind Intel. I used to be a huge AMD fan because they were innovative on the architecture side of things and it kept them competitive. But again, that was a long time ago.

As the big fan of AMD I still believe that their CPUs are more than OK. Especially for these people that cant afford for very expensive Intel builds. I understand that Intel and AMD participate in big race and Intel is still a few second up front of AMD. Since first MX200 I'm a loyal customer of AMD. Now with FX8350 and 290X I have no probs with any game that require a lot of resources to run on max details. I even went for three screen set up and cant complain. I hope Zen will show that AMD is going in right direction. To give Intel a proper battle. Positive thing is that even Intel needs strong competitor otherwise it will become to expensive for normal bread eaters. Of course I can see a difference in some games where Intel is better but this is only because code devs use to create game. Like Arma3 will run better only on Intel and NVidia. But my set up in not far behind. On three screens!!!
I know that is a battle between AMD and Intel followers. I know that Intel is on winning side atm. Slightly. And I do believe that AMD can do better and it will eventually. Zen is the one of the first steps to achieve this goal.
Still I more that convinced that AMD GPUS are better than NVidias. That's my opinion and a lot of people can do not agree with
On very end I would like to say ALL THE BEST FOR AMD AND THEIR TEAM.

Xyrin I have hope that you are wrong. I cant even imagine world with Intel as sole chipset manufacturer.
MAD must live and I'm sure they will find a way to compete with Intel on same level

I'm cheering for the underdog here. I think AMD will get the performance right with Zen, i.e. similar performance to Intel. Not sure about power. I don't think they'll be competitive on power, but with the right pricing I think lots of people would ignore that. Also, AMD has always been more liberal about unlocked CPUs, so I think this will help them even more than pricing. Really excited to see what happens.

The news that AMD has extended its deal with GlobalFoundries and that reading between the lines on GF's development to suggest AMD will skip 10nm node heading straight for 7nm is impressive. Zen+ on 7nm is likely to be a real competitor for intel once again. Go red team. My most recent build was i7 based as today AMD has nothing on the table to match it. In two years time I am hoping that AMD will have something I can use.

Hope it does for the pure competition it might offer. Other than that... Not much of a hype kind of giuy.. I want benchmarcks...

I don't see how it can. It's hyped up do high that expectations won't be met in one way or another.

AMD demo against a tier 1 intel cpu to prove they can match it. But it's not KabyLake, it's not the same TDP, it's not the same clock rate, etc, etc.

It will be a great improvement. But won't catch intel in raw compute power. Hopefully it will equalise that with lower cost.

Also, reliance on Moar Cores isn't going to help. Outside of specific industries have four is more than enough (software rarely utilising them all). 8C16T is going to see a lot of idle time.

I truly hope it does. We, the consumers, need some huge competition to come from AMD to boost Intel's R&D. I still have no reason to upgrade my 4770k, even when I am getting the upgrade itch.

maybe i've been missing something, but what is all the "hype"? just regular consumers mentioning it fairly often?

outside of regular users stating to maybe wait and see what Zen brings to the table rather than upgrade to X99, all i've seen is 6-8 articles over the last 18 months directly from AMD detailing what they're doing and hoping to achieve.
i don't see any big advertisements or conference/tradeshow spotlights with crazy reports or web ads everywhere.

it's funny to see how many psychics there are out there who just know how they're going to perform. so many "never"s and "can't"s and "won't"s.
how about a little hope for the industry and less bias?

I definitely hope AMD can put a good product on the market that can compete with the Intel line-up that is out there. Do I believe Zen will live up to the hype? Not really. I think it will perform slightly worse than all the claims that are being made, like in most cases where a company presents self-performed benchmarks.

I think it will be competitive enough to give the faithful enough reason to come back and stop their downward spiral. But I doubt it will be groundbreaking enough make Intel squirm. Even when AMD has had a clearly better product their sales never seem to match.

Will AMD's next-gen Zen core microarchitecture live up to the hype?

I'd like to think so, but I doubt it. 480 was a pretty big let down. At this point I'm losing much faith but would love to be surprised.

Will AMD's next-gen Zen core microarchitecture live up to the hype?

AMD did make significant performance boosts with Polaris. I know some will nit-pick because they didn't see the exact numbers promised in power usage. With Zen, the "promo" benchmarks certainly look promising. After noting the above, it's also important to point out hype has killed many things, especially over-hype. Some pretty good movies have suffered badly because of this too. Anything can suffer for that matter. It's because of this, I usually try not to buy into the hype of anything and let the product speak for itself.

Do I think it will live up to the hype? I believe it has shown the potential to do so.

Unfortunately, I think Intel is too far ahead at the moment. I'm hoping this will help AMD get closer but don't want to get my hopes up.

I think both yes and no. I think in terms of compute performance it will, but I think in terms of sales it won't. Because AMD is playing catch up at this point to Intel, I don't think it will have enough steam to sell as well as they would like (although I believe it will sell fairly well).

Just like the RX480 hype, Zen is going to capable, but not stellar. I hope at least they are price competitive.

As an AMD stock investor watching today's stock crash, I really do hope so!! But as a realist, I don't think it'll beat Intel's current offerings in power and efficiency, but may get pretty close while offering a much better price / performance ratio. AMD seems to be talking it up as this big leap in technology, and while it may be for AMD compared to its previous chips, I don't see a huge jump in CPU tech until graphene in 10+ years.

Then again, I don't know anything about computer engineering and don't understand 99% of the charts and graphs out there so who knows. Just from a casual techie perspective, I'm guessing Intel has far more resources to hire and invest than AMD right now.
