It may have come into contact with rain, food, sand, drops of sea water and coca cola

It seems like a hardware issue because it doesn't work on a fresh new hard drive and windows install also, and since its a lap top I cant just exchange the keyboard for a new one

What do you recommend I do ?

What do you think the problem is?

So far I have merely lifted the key up, cleaned underneath with a tooth brush and generally cleaned the outside of my lap top.

Worst case scenario should I just reassign an unused key to have the function of backspacedelete?, Keep in mind im a laptop simp, so I want the easiest and least technical solution

If the issue is isolated to just those keys I would probably try an air compressor (with a water filter) to see if the debris could be blown out. As you note yourself, there are other issues at play at a beach, so salt, humidity, etc. could also be at play.

If you hook up an external keyboard does everything otherwise work as normal?

If you are comfortable opening up your lappy, you should replace the keyboard (as DS said above, I have done this, not so difficult). If not, perhaps take it to a shop, if the cost is reasonable. Otherwise, if all else is fine, reassign the key.
