Hi!

my Toshiba Laptop can't boot in safe mode, can't boot regularly, cant get into windows. after the toshiba logo at the start, it just leads to a black screen with a flashing cursor. someone please help me.

laptop is a toshiba m305-s4910

OS: windows vista home premium

Tried the hardware recovery thing, which is: press and hold 0, then press the power button, then tap 0 when Toshiba logo starts. That does not work.

Tried pressing F8 to enter safe mode, that does not work either.

both of these things that i tried just leads to a black screen with a " _ " line that flashes at the upper left corner of the screen.
and when i press a button it "beeps" annoyingly.

what do i do know?

thanks in advance!

I was having the same problem described in this thread, so I emailed bellomycr and he had the problem fixed in no time. Turns out a corrupt Windows Update caused the problem on my laptop. If anyone else is having this problem, I recommend emailing bellomycr and chances are good that this remedy will solve your problem.ds

Similar issue here as the OP. But the laptop boots fine, as long as I don't touch the keyboard. If at anytime, before Windows starts loading, a key is pressed, it will lock up.

That means no F8 menu, no booting from CD drive, nothing.

I have tried a bios update, and the options in the bios are slim.

This is in a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7437.

It's not a critical issue now, but if something goes wrong in the future, it will be.

If anyone has any ideas, let me know!

try updating driver for keyboard or try reseating it plastic rim at keyboard pops off should be like 4 or 5 screws flip keyboard forward (spacebar up toward the screen only one ribbon

bellomycr,

I have the same issue with a friend's Toshiba Netbook (NB505) and Windows 7.

I've tried the following with no succes:
- Windows Recovery (pressing F8)
- trying to kick off the Toshiba HDD Recovery process (pressing "0" while booting)
- booting with a Win7 bootable USB Key and trying different restore points
- booting with a Win7 bootable USB Key and reactivating the main partition
- booting with a Win7 bootable USB Key and attempt to activate the Toshiba Restore partition

Hence, finding this forum, I am planning on using UBCD as recommended by you. Do you have any pointers on what I should focus on and which UBCD tool I should consider as the next step?

WOW - Thank you SOOO much!

This has taken the Toshiba from a blank screen with flashing cursor to actually attempting to boot. =)
It now does "Loading RAMDISK image..." and "TOSHIBA Recovery Tool" but then the system runs into another error.

"Windows cannot find 'C:\BIN\BOOTPRIORITY.EXE'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."

When I click "OK" it restarts the computer and reaches the same error message again.

I am very happy to see that Windows is trying to load, but do you know what else I could do to try and get past this next problem?

Thanks so much in advance!

Thank you so much for all of your help this afternoon, you saved this laptop. I encourage anyone who needs help with an issue like this, get in touch with bellomycr, not only is this laptop a toshiba satellite a205-s5804 working again, but absolutely nothing was lost in recovery as well.

Bellomycr knows what he is talking about, and was nice enough to walk me through the entire recovery process over AIM too.

Thank you again!

Thanks a million Tom! This fix repaired my blank screen, cursor blinking issue!! I t was easy too. Toshiba wanted $40 just to talk about it with no guarantees.
Thanks again.

Feel free to exchange any personal info you like in private messages, but posting such in a thread is a very bad idea and is not allowed so as to protect YOU. And before you say you'll risk it, remember that you are also setting an example. That's why we will remove personal info whenever we see it, and perhaps even do more if that doesn't work.

Most if not all bellomycr's posts to Tom's are in this one thread and on this single issue. Perhaps he or she should post a definitive answer and prevent this necro thread being dragged up every year for the next ten. It is also quite with Forum Rules to publish his e-mail address as part of his Member Website in his Profile. Those of us who do presumably risk being sold to Spammers but speaking personally, I don't see any increase is Spam since joining Tom's nearly two years ago.

i am currently rewriteing steps for fixing this issue so it is better explained and things like the bootmgr missing is easy to fix
also i want to give credit to http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ for there free software that is great for fixing this issue.

most people with this problem can not run these programs but i have try fixboot fixmbr and bootrec and they havent worked. none of those programs will march the partition active
