SSD companies ain't going to lower the ssd price because there are too many people who are willing to pay premium for it.

And Apple will still only offer 8GB in it's entry model iPod Touch, and way over charge for more memory without giving you the ability to just insert a MicroSD card.

They`re going to keep prices high, they may lower the prices on some things, but now marketing is going to tell you that you`re not as cool or cutting edge if you buy that older stuff. How about some number specifications as to performance?

It would probably be in a format similar to RAM modules but it won't come until the industry sits down and formulate a standard for it.

I thought Intel and Microns 25nm also hit 8GB on a single chip.

I guess this just means more companies meaning more choices and cheaper prices. Hopefully SSDs will hit less that $1/GB.

I really hope current SSD prices drop when drives base on these chips are released. I would love a Phoenix drive but the prices are still just to high right now.

Based on Samsungs own site, Toggle ddr will speed up data reads and writes up to 400 mbps in late 2011.

At first i was disappointed at the ssd companies (Intel, Toshiba) for making there ssd's multi-cell, 3 or more bits per cell, but this newer toggle ddr should speed these ssd's up to single-cell speeds or faster. Oh, and nice picture!

Hmm, you almost have a point there.
Imagine you could RAID a lot of SD cards from readers, each one would have to be on a separate USB header so it can benefit from maximum bandwidth, how many would it take to achieve the same read/write performance of an SSD?
How about something like this?

111.4MB/s read and 55.2MB/s write are not impressive looking stats and the device plus 6 x 8Gb cards is approx £120 ($170) for 48Gb.

For £113 ($160) I can buy a 60Gb SSD with read of 285MB / write of 275MB

Eventually the prices on these technologies will come down, programmers and application inventor will need to figure out what the best applications (a memory hug) that requires these kind of hardware. Maybe we consumers shouldn't be compressing audio files anymore and demand that our media players be left at default settings of uncompress format. That'll force the market to find an option such as these Medias to store our music files? Maybe???

That market segment will be filled soon - there is always a small % of people who will pay extra to be on leading bleeding edge

SSD is not a way to replaced HD because it still has problems, yes it is fast but it can fail.

The only way to drop the prices of ssd is to not buy them and let them rot in the factories and watch them come to you begging to be installed in your desktop ....
