please help me repair a toshiba atelite that wont power up and shows no lights but when i plug in the power pack the light on the power pack fades and starts to blink

My brother's Toshiba had the same problem after he dropped it on its side, ramming the cord into the power socket. You might've not done something so...ingenious...but it could still be a similar problem. To fix it, we had to take off the laptop's under cover, and snap out the damaged power socket, then snap in a new one. Pretty easy fix, depending on your model (which you should give us).

But before condemning you to repairs, let's troubleshoot some. What happens if you remove the battery and power cable, hold down the power button for 20 seconds (with no power), then plug the cable in and try to start it (no battery)?

Are you able to get ahold of another Toshiba adatper cable? I would try one of these to see if it's the cable or the socket.

as above try another working power pack of a friends, if it is still the same and they have the same laptop try swoping the battery too, if it powers on with the other battery and no power pack great, then try with the power pack, if all works put your old battery in again and try the new power pack if it still works then it is your power pack. if it is still the same then chances are you have one of two faults, either a complicated motherboard fault or a simple internal power socket fault, as Kyle said above it is simple to replace, and you can probably watch a video of how to change it on Youtube.

If when you put the power plug into the laptop it is very slack, loose or does not stay in on its own, chances are it is damaged internally and if you continue you could damage the power pack, so get the power socket replaced and take it from there.

Another tip is to remove the battery and the power pack and hold the power button down for 10 seconds then put the charge lead in and try again. if that works put your battery back in and try again. if it now fails, could be a faulty battery or a fault on the motherboard.
