Hi guys. I have a problem with my toshiba satellite c850-13x. When i try to power it on all i get is a black screen. I 've replaced the ram and I've tried using an external display. It turns on as in once it's powered on the Numlock and Capslock keys respond. I've tried removing the battery and leaving it unplugged WITHOUT the battery but that didn't work. I even tried changing the drive.

Disconnect from the wall, disconnect the battery for the laptop, remove the stick(s) of ram, press and hold down the power button for 30secs to drain any residual power. After you've done so, take an eraser and use it to clean the gold contacts of the stick(s) of ram. Make sure you've taken off any dirt/eraser lint off the stick(s) of ram before reseating them in the slot(s) of the laptop's motherboard.

Start by reseating one stick of ram int eh white slot below. Try swapping the sticks of ram in the white slot and power up with the adapter, without the battery. If you do get it top POST, then power down, and add the second stick of ram(if you're working with two sticks of ram.

It's strange, the fan kicks in, and like i said the keyboard caps and num lock light up but I'm not getting any bios tone. Is it worth carrying on with or should i just send it to the scrapheap?

edit: I tried booting from a pen drive, even that lights up!
