I'm looking to play the total war series at least up to Napoleon. I currently am maxed out at Rome Total war. What price range should I be looking at for my requirements and would a used PC be best?

Solution
Well if it's used then its entirely circumstantial, but if its new a build then a £400 + is pretty much all you need.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/FG3QwV - quick build

(Assuming you have the basic software and peripherals)

Here's a basic of basics build. It's probably not the *best* build you can get for the money, but it's definitely not bad. Would even allow you to play TW:WH at med-high settings at a reasonable fps of maybe 30-50, ofc, this fluctuates depending no the amount of units loaded on-screen. Would pretty much destroy Napoleon to oblivion.

I don't really know your budget, nor do i know which country you hail from, so that includes currency and such.

If you do, however, decide to follow this build, then my first...

im a huge fan of total war games. i just picked an ASUS G752 laptop, so far it seems a bit overkill with Rome2. getting 40-60 fps on high / very high settings.

total war games can be difficult for assessing PC requirements. the bigger the battles, more powerful PSU/GPU you will need.

most games usualy bottle-neck with GPU more than CPU, but Total war games have an especially high CPU consumption due to large armies (with each soldier having +20 moving parts).

for figuring CPU:
what size armies do you want?

for figuring GPU:
what graphics settings are you comfortable with?

If you do, however, decide to follow this build, then my first recommendation is to wait for a few more months or so til your next allowance or check so you can barter for at least an i5, a la the 6400. Games like the Total war franchise is much more CPU intensive as oppose to being a GPU intensive game. The 460 included in this build is by no means lacking either. That 2GB VRAM is a little low, for me personally, but you probably won't need any higher than that with the settings you'll probably be playing at (MED)
