My T4U USB WiFi adapter disconnects when I download big files. It cant keep a high download rate at 5ghz connection and drops the connection after 5-10mins of downloading. Same happened with my older tp link adapter.. I reinstalled Windows, tried different USB and drivers but I assume the adapter overheats. Can this can be a general problem for any wireless adapter? I get a download rate around 15MB/s when I have half gigabit internet from Vodafone. The distance between the pc and the wifi source is around 10 meters. I cant leave my pc to download anything without checking Back and reconnecting....

Solution
I would try a USB extension cable to move it away from the computer. It will get better signal and better airflow if it really is overheating. If the device actually is getting too hot you will be able to tell by touching it. The device might get a little warm but I doubt you would call it hot.

What I would try to do is test next to the router even though it might be inconvenient. I suspect your are getting some kind of interference that is causing the disconnect. If it disconnect close to the router then it likely is something else.
