Hiya I live in the UK and have absolutely tragic internet speeds from BT (currently writing this using 4G on my phone)

www.speedtest.net/result/6968544336

Above are my speedtest results.
Fibre broadband isn't available in my area yet and changing internet provider isn't an option right now. The router in my house is downstairs and cant be moved.

I know I have an Asus PCE-N15 11n Wi-Fi card in my PC (will upgrading this help?)

I was also thinking of buying a Wi-Fi booster and plugging it in in my room and connecting it to my PC with and Ethernet cable. Will this help?

All answers are much appreciated, Ajsski99

I have this setup and it has significantly increased my wifi speeds. Before they were less than 1mb now they sometimes reach 20! https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-LINK-TL-WPA4220KIT-Powerline-Configuration-Smartphone/dp/B00DHB2T44/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1516040666&sr=8-5&keywords=tp+link+av500

If your wifi is horribly slow like mine was that's your best bet

It's surprisingly easy to set up all you have to do is plug your router into the smaller plug and pair them. It says in the instructions.

I think I’m advertised to get 16mbps as that’s the best plan in my area... I’ll run the test when I get back from work... I’ll keep you updated!

advertised speeds are speeds in the best scenario possible so you're pretty much always gonna have less than required. If there's anyway of decreasing the distance between you and the router you've got that should improve your speeds.

Nobody was using it ahah

Contacted BT and they don’t want to know (as usual)

All they say is “there’s a problem with the line”

In contact with virgin media recently to try and organise a fibre installation near my house...
Thanks for the help guys!!
