Hello
First of, i have no idea what a good PSU is, for me they are just the box that delivers power, i know that's not true but for me that is the case. So i hope some more experienced people can point me in the right direction.
So i have the cx750 right now, i stated what i'm looking to buy in another thread and a helpful member of this forum asked why i used that PSU for such a nice setup, i was like"why not?" but i thought i would take it to the right subforum to ask that question.

I am going to use:
fractal design define R6
i7-8700k, which i am going to OC(if that should have an effect on my PSU)
Noctua N15-DH(maybe N15-DHs, i'm guessing this doesn't matter much for my PSU)
ASUS Maximus X Hero
GTX 1080 AMP
16 GB G.Skill TridentZ DDR4-3200
2 x Samsung 850 Pro SSD
1 TB HDD

So why isn't my CX750 good enough, it delivers the power i need?
But i'm thinking there is more to it then that.
All help is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Solution
Also for a quick short list of good PSUs in the 550w - 750w range that are under $90 I'd look at these (assuming you're in the US market)

Seasonic Focus Plus 550w

EVGA G2 550w (last gen model but still strong)

EVGA G3 550w (current model)
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/sMM323/evga-supernova-g3-550w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-220-g3-0550

Thermaltake Toughpower Grand RGB 650W (rebates bring it to $70)...

There is a green label version of the cx series which is utter crap. Those killed a bunch of pc's. Also how old is that psu?

A good PSU is not just about how much power it delivers but the build quality of the PSU. A lot of factors can go to it, so reading up on it is a good idea. If you want a general list to go off of to replace your model I'd look at this
https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/631048-psu-tier-list-updated/

As for your Corsair CX... the older Corsair CX models were really only one step up from the "replace this now!" tier of PSU's in terms of build quality. You can tell, as this model was branded with a Green and White writing on the side. The current models have gotten a lot better, and while still in the "budget" line up of PSUs, they're a decent build quality. You can tell the current models by the Gray and White writing on the side.

found the receipt it was bought 5th of may 2015, so roughly 3 years.

@Jaslion green label? what does that mean? please don't tell me its as simple as the text is green, because the text is green on mine.

Yep, if yours is the green (images for reference http://i.imgur.com/LeBoRfr.png) then it's really not a good one. Since you're already doing a rebuild, now's a perfect time to swap it out.

For models to look at, check out the list I linked earlier. Your system as listed would be able to easily run with a 550w PSU so you don't need to go super expensive to get a good unit. A 550w to 650w is a pretty easy range to find units under $100 that are modular and gold rated.

Also a note on your build. If you go with the NH-D15 cooler, you're going to have to raise the fan up 12mm to fit the RAM you've chosen. That's going to put your overall cooler height at 177mm (outside fan has a stock RAM clearance of 32mm, your RAM is 44mm tall). While that will fit in your case, it will offset a large chunk of the fan so it's not blowing through the heatsink. I have that cooler, and it's great, but you do need to plan your build around it and not the other way around.

@Azaran HOLY S*** that is my PSU ><
i will start looking for that PSU right away. i swear i can smell burned electronics right now Oo
about the cooler, i know about that height issue, but the corsair vengance LPX? whats-their-name is pretty expensive where i'm from, and i cant find others that low in height, you got any suggestions by chance? i dont care about looks since im going to jide them under that big beaty of a metal chunk anyway 😉

If your heart is set on the NH-D15, I'd recommend the Vengence LPX because of their height. The cost is really the biggest issue with those sticks. But honestly really, given the performance, I'd say go with the NH-D15s. On benchmarks I've seen the D15s performs within a degree or two of the D15, and outperforms it by a couple degrees if you slap a second fan on it. It'll make your build a hell of a lot easier and cost a bit less, and if you really want that second fan you can always add it later on.

i was actually wondering that earlier today about the D15s, can you really just mount an extra fan, since that seems to be the big difference between those. What about the metal brackets thingy, that hold the fan to the heat sink?

So i found the Seasonic Focus Plus 750 Gold 750W for a good price and on top of the list you linked.
So that's pretty good right? one question " in cable capacitors suck for cable management" says JonnyGuru.
I'm not sure what that means? otherwise it seems he praises this unit.

Ah didn't see your answer before i posted mine.
seems like the Seasonic Focus Plus 750w is the one for me.
I would like a unit where i should think about expanding my system at all and PSU could become a problem.
To bad i dont line in the US since that price is like 45$ cheaper then here. woohoo for taxes and VAT.

The prices quoted were for US markets. You may have better luck with local pricing and avoid VAT, if not then international shipping it is.

As for the "cable capacitors suck for cable management" bit, it's really only an issue if your case is a pain to cable manage. The capacitors make for a thicker cable, so bending and flexing it makes for more of a hassle. The case you picked out shouldn't have any issue with it. For reference, I used the 650w Focus Prime Plus in a build with a Raijintek Styx MATX mini case and didn't have any issues with the cable capacitors.

100% local, the VAT and shipping would more then double the price of the PSU 😛
Thanks for your help, it is very much appreciated. Now i can rest easy as i know my future PC wont blow up or something like that.
side-note could i just put on an extra fan on the N15s with out any problem? if i later find out i need it.

Yep, should not be a problem. In fact it looks like the NF-F12 would give you the clearance needed for your RAM.

Directly from Noctuas website:
"Dual-fan ready
Using the supplied extra fan clips, the NH-D15S can be upgraded with either a second round-frame 140mm fan with 120mm mounting holes (such as the NF-A15) for maximum performance or a common 120mm fan (such as the NF-F12) for improving performance while maintaining compatibility with RAM modules of up to 45mm height. "

Also which country are you in? Partpicker has versions for different countries and it can help when finding a good deal.
