Transfer windows 7 hard drive

If I take the hard drive with windows 7 on it out of my laptop and I put it into my new desktop, will the desktop now have windows 7 on it?

I took out a HDD with Windows 7 in a desktop, and installed it on a new build (new motherboard, new cpu, new memory, new psu, etc.). No problem.
