[SOLVED] Transfer WinXP from a HDD to SSD

A friend of mine uses a WinXP system offline for his business and his HDD is painfully slow (takes about 10 min to load the Comcash POS software for his sales) so I suggested getting a SSD to speed things up but was wondering is WinXP going to work fine on the SSD and will we be able to clone everything over without issue?

If there is no issue which software should we use? EaseUS or is there something better?

Macrium reflect should clone that entire installation sector by sector if desired, for an exact copy to SSD. Should not be a problem.

Obviously though there are some size considerations. so be sure the SSD is at least about 25% larger than the size on disk of the data to be cloned. Being even more than 25% larger than the size of the current data would even be better.

Sounds good, I'll stop by his shop after work to check the size of the drive but considering how old it is I'd imagine a budget 480gb SSD would be plenty. Will probably grab a budget SSD and post clone have him disconnect the HDD and hold onto it as a backup just in case the SSD fails.

So the HDD is 160gb so I'll have him get a 240gb.

Yep, that should be fine. If this is something he needs to access and rewrite data to A LOT, you might want to consider making sure you get a drive with TLC NAND rather than the QLC that has become popular because of being cheap. TLC has a lot better longevity long term.

Does his system need to be online or can I download Macrium to a flash drive then use that to install it onto his system for the clone?

Yes, you can install Macrium from flash drive to his system. It does not need to be online.
