Hello, I plan on upgrading my hard drive with my old hard drive that belongs to a computer with a dead motherboard. How can I prepare myself before doing this? I have an installation cd for this as well.

The reason why I am upgrading is because my old one is 320GB which is 160GB more than the one I have right now.

Thank you for taking time to help me :)

If you have the license key and the install disk...yes, a clean install will work.
Assuming the drive actually works.

So, a clean install should set everything straight?

I assume you know that this hard drive I'm installing has a windows os on it and some files but i don't care for them, I would just like to get it working with a fresh install of windows if it's possible.

Thank you, I installed the new (used but computer crashed and bought a new computer since the MB was dead) hard drive, checked the bios on first boot to make sure it detected it and it actually booted me all the way to windows :0

All of my data was on it and was still accessible without a problem, though i gave it a fresh install of windows anyways to keep things clean.

Thanks again, this site is awesome.
