[SOLVED] Transferring Files - Drive Not Registering

Hello, I am trying to migrate files on a 3.5 1TB drive to my laptop, I pulled the drive out of the tower and have bought an USB/SATA adapter but the drive doesn't power on or register with the laptop.

The USB adapter plugs into the slots on the right, but I'm noticing there is an 8pin port to the left - is that the power port, or do I need another adapter, or is the adapter I bought faulty? If I need to buy an 8pin power adapter, I am having trouble locating one that fits in that slot.

Yes.
And that adapter Will Not Work.

A 3.5" HDD needs both 5v and 12v. USB can only supply the 5v.
You need an adapter with an actual wall plug.

Cable or dock.

I have this dock, works like a charm.

Again, the cable you have from ebay cannot work for a 3.5" HDD, no matter what they put in the text.

Ah okay dang, that is what I was afraid of when I plugged it in and it didn't power up. I will return that adapter. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction - just ordered that cable matters device. Thank you!
