Transferring Raid 10 to a new computer

Hello everyone,

First of all, thanks to everyone who takes the time to help other people here, over the years I found very valuable information that was really helpful.

I just got a new motherboard and CPU and I want to migrate my RAID 10 to the new motherboard.

1. The current setup is using motherboard RAID. This mb is going to a family member. Is there any setting I need to change on it before removing the RAID?
2. In the new system should I continue using the mb RAID or should I buy a dedicated controller? If I need to buy a new controller is there one that is recommended? Would I then be able to migrate the RAID to a new pc later?


New mb: Asrock X370 Taichi

Current mb: Asrock Z87 Xtreme6

Copy the data off to another drive.
Build the new RAID array with the new hardware
Copy the data back into the new array.

Motherboard RAID is unlikely to 'just work' with a whole new board or controller.

Thanks for your answer. I'm not expecting it to work directly. I backed up everything already and I'll build a new array. I was just wondering if I needed to "tell" the old mobo that I was reliving the array to avoid potential boot error once installed in my sister's computer.
As for the controller, I was hoping that getting one instead of using the mobo would mean that next time, I'd just have ho move the controller and the drives to the new pc, and everything would work.

Yo answer your question, I wanted to build an array to protect my data (too many hdd failures in the past), and I had enough (almost) hdd at hand to build a Raid 10, so I went for it.

I'd say yes.
Return the motherboard to factory default settings, and proceed from there.
