Essentially I’ve been using a 1TB HDD for as the lone hard drive on my desktop. I’d like to fully-replace it’s function with my new 1TB SSD - transferring windows 10 OS and all files. I’d like to retain the HDD and use it as extra storage. Please advise the best way to do this

Specific steps for a successful clone operation:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive

Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe all partitions on it.
This will probably require the commandline diskpart function, and the clean command.

Hello again:

Samsung SSD cloned, I made it to the point of booting with only the SSD plugged in. Opened bios and it’s listed as boot option 1, however when I reboot a screen pops up and says: “Reboot and Select proper Boot device”

Then you've done something wrong in the cloning process.
Likely missed the small System Reserved partiton. That is what holds the actual boot info.

When I reorder boot option 1 to UEFI Hard Disk: Windows Boot Manager (SATA2: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB) it boots up.

“Reboot and Select proper Boot device” was occuring when I chose Hard Disk: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB
