Trendnet Powerline Adapters not pairing help

Hi, I bought these powerline adapters today:

For some reason they do not sync together. The ethernet and powerlight go on but the pl light does not. I hold the sync button on each till the orange sync light blinks but they still do not detect each other. I even plugged both to the same outlet and they do not pair up. Anyone know why they do not pair up together? Does powerline just not work in my house?

i seem to recall the suggestion to establish easy pairing is to plug both adapters into separate outlets in the same room, rather than into the same outlet.
