I figured the whole point of SMART tech is to notify you of possibly failure so that you can then quickly recover your files on that drive and get a new one, but maybe I am mistaken.
Don't rely on SMART or anything else to notify you the drive is failing.

You need to be prepared for that ALL the time.

Drive fail can happen anytime, and quite suddenly.
With no warning.

Backups are like car insurance.
You can't buy car insurance 2 minutes after the crash.

Well, I appreciate the info. Haven't ever been taught about their importance, but I guess this is just a hard learning lesson. Do you recommend just having a second drive that you regularly put backups onto and delete old ones after making a new backup?

The deeper concept of a backup routine is 3-2-1
3 copies, on at least 2 different media, at least 1 offsite or otherwise inaccessible.

Most people have "lost data".
Smart people don't let it happen again.

There is the picture from what it is showing when I try to boot normally.
Did you reset BIOS settings or something?

Intel RST with Optane has to be turned off.
SATA controller mode has to be set to AHCI.

Boot from windows on a different drive.
If you need to install windows, then have only single drive connected while installing windows.

If Macrium is not successful with clone/image creation, then
try Minitool Partition Wizard free.
Copy partitions manually.
