I recently upgraded my cpu from an FX 8350 to a 6600k along with new RAM and a MOBO (MSI B150M). It is paired with an EVGA gtx 1070 FTW and while it performs fairly well, I want to get more out of it seeing that others with similar builds can achieve up to 40% higher fps in most games than I can with a similar set up. When I went to try to overclock in the bios (I have the process of overclocking down, did it with the 8350) It would only let me go as high as 3.6 and no further. The same thing occurs using Intel Xtreme Utility. I have disabled Turbo boost and EIST in the bios and my bios is up to date. I want to hit at least 4.0.

Solution
People have made much worse mistakes than getting the wrong motherboard 😛 Is your motherboard still within the return period? If not, I'm curious to see how far you get with the BCLK. ~
Have you tried with the base clock? I know that the BIOS will limit you on anything but a Z170 board when trying to increase the multiplier. You *might* have some better luck with the base clock. ~

It is still within the time period, I am just super anal about having a pc on hand ready to go so I may just place a will call for a new mobo with the Z170 set, and then return the current one just so my pc isnt down for to long. Ill also try changing the BCLK.
