Trouble with a GA-P35-DS4

Nope, only the factory bios. Since it is a totaly new system I haven't had the chance to upgrade the bios yet. But I will and that should solve my problem with my other ram.

The new bios could solve the issue. I would strongly suggest flashing it.
I am watching this thread closely, because I am going to be getting one of the Gigabyte boards shortly. I would like to get Corsair ram, but won't if there is no resolution.

There will be a resolution. If you get a gigabyte board chances are pretty good you won't have this problem. Not many gigabyte boards have this issue, only the first shipment. I can't confirm it yet but the current BIOS version should fix this problem. So if you happen to get a old version, like I did. You can:
1) return it
2) Buy a 512mb PC5300 corsair value pack. Install your OS using that ram, update the BIOS and then simply swap ram with your faster corsair ram.

I chose option number 2 since sending the board back, having the store update the BIOS would take about a week and I didn't want to wait that long.

If you chose to get the same memory as I got you should look around corsairs site. They've tested that model with the GA-P35-DS4 and it works (with the latest BIOS version).

Hope this is helpful!

Cheers!

I'll get all the information I can from my ramsticks when I get back home from work today..

I haven't flashed my BIOS, but when it boots it says that the BIOS version is F4 which was the newest I found on gigabytes site. (I'll doublecheck when I get back home) Flashing BIOS wont be a suitable solution for ones who doesn't manage to bootstrap their system though :)

Run some stability tests on the system tonight with the Kingston sticks I bought and have not had a problem yet.

Hi..

My memory sticks have the following written on them:

CM2X1024-6400C5DHX XMS2-6400 1024MB 800MHz 5-5-5-18 XMS6405v2.1 07160251

I'm using BIOS version F4.. Haven't flashed BIOS cuz F4 is what I find on gigabyte's site too, so reckon I have the newest available version..

Thank you for the information both of you, I'll get this to the lab guys. FWIW, you have modules that are built on different ICs. Can you test your new Corsair memory on another system just to be certain you don't have DOAs?

Unfortunately I don't have another system that can use those sticks.. Hope you'll be able to reproduce the problem and fix it.. I didn't expect corsair people to come and help and take hold of the problem here, so creds to you for that :)

For me, I think I will return those sticks to the shop. I have to return them
within another week to get my money back, and I don't expect there to be a
BIOS upgrade that I can download and verify works with the chips within that time. But hopefully you'll find the problem so others don't get them. (And since I bought other chips to make sure motherboard worked I have two more than I need anyways)

See if a friend or that shop will test them if you can. That way we'll know for sure if we do have DOA or not.

Well.. The shop managed to be cryptic with the response.. Directly translated they said something like: The returned memory sticks was tested defect in accordance to failure specification.

I have no idea whether this was a test in combination with the motherboard I told them I had trouble using it with or not.. Anyways.. Got a working system now, so laying this to rest..

Hi everyone. I too am having problems with a Gigabyte P35 mb. Ive got a DQ6 and have 2x1GB OCZ PC8500 (the SLI ready stuff certified to run at 1066 5-5-5-15 at 2.3V)
I built the system with Core2Duo E6600 and it ran perfectly for several weeks. The CPU was overclocked at 3.2Ghz and my temps were good, everything solid as a rock.

Then one morning it wouldn't boot up, exactly the same as people have described here. It would stop and start over and over. At first if I left it for a while it would eventually boot after several stop/starts. After a few days of this behaviour the only way to get it going was to Clear the CMOS with the jumper at which point it would boot and I could go straight into CMOS and load my old saved settings (OC 3.2GHz 1066 RAM at 5-5-5-15) and it would boot no problem. As long as I didnt turn it off I had no problems and I left my PC on for 10 days straight at one point cos I was so sick of the long winded routine to get it going in the morning. I would just log out and leave it overnight at the logon screen.

Now its even worse and usually it wont start even after clearing the CMOS. I usually have to unplug everything, reboot, switch off, plug it all back in, reboot and if Im lucky it fires up. Running at stock or overclocking doesnt make any diff and Ive tried some lower spec RAM too and the problem persists. Once its up and running though it will pass all memory tests, benchmarks etc no problem.

I'm really stumped as to what is causing it. I was running F4 BIOS but after getting bored of waiting for an update I installed the Beta release F5g....it hasnt helped (or made it worse by the way).

One thing I dont get as well, I currently have CPU running at stock 2.4GHZ with memory at 1066 5-5-5-15 and I set the DDR2 voltage to +.4 which I assume means it should be running at 2.2v as the norm is 1.8? Is that right? Its just that when I go into Sandra XLSP3 and click on hardware>motherboard and check the settings for the memory modules it says DC line is 1.8V???? Is this just Sandra reporting the memory voltage wrong or am I reading the wrong setting or is the board ignoring my voltage settings? Is there another utility that will accurately report memory voltage settings? CPUZ reports CPU voltage but doesnt appear to report DDR?

Grateful for any advice anyone can offer.
thanks

As an update to this I took some advise I read elsewhere that the PSU was probbaly faulty and replaced my 4 month old 550W with a brand new 600W. THe new PSU is quieter but other than that, no change...just £80 down the drain.

If the motherboard is faulty why is it so stable once its decided to boot?????

ITS DOING MY HEAD IN!!!!

Please help someone....anyone!

I've had exactly the same now with 2 ga p35 ds4 1.0 using e6600 CPU and 8800 gts 640. No beep, no error codes, nothing. Tried with lower voltage, cheapo RAM - again nothing. Fans whir into action and then....nothing.
Will send it back again and wait some months until it's more mature.

no probs here

Have posted mine back to Overclockers UK today, will let you know how it goes

Slyfox - what revision is your mobo, mine was 1.0

Well installed replacement last night, booted first time without changing BIOS settings.
Loaded optimised BIOS settings and booted first time.
Left over night and booted first time this morning!!
Looking good

Will try overclcocking after the weekend.

i have recently bought new pc bits new of course but think i wuda been better looking in the dump. I got a new P35-DS4 mobo with 2 gig of sheep kingston 667MHz and a quad core processor Q6600 intel and a nvidia 8500 GT 512MB Q card since i got in just 4 weeks ago in been back in the shop were i got it twice and the guys there cant find nothing wrong with it but i think am talking on deaf ears as when booting up warm old cold starts it just trys to reboot some time graphix's some times just i watch the lights come on then go of. I have tried my removing all un-needed parts new install new psu even upgrading to newest BIOS even tried different sheep in it and different HDD's any help or a fiz wud be well honered 😀

My money is on the mobo being faulty (I had the same problem). Get an RMA from the supplier and get it replaced. There were alot of bad GA-P35-DS4 out there but Gigabyte seem to have corrected the cold boot problem.
