My daughter has an HP Envy 7640 printer, which prints just fine... trouble is she moved recently and when trying to reconnect her computers and printer to new network, she cannot get the network to recognize her HP printer... or perhaps get her HP printer to connect to the network. The computers connect fine, but when trying to print wirelessly, you just can't get there... Have spent hours on the phone with the internet provider, and more hours on with HP. Nobody seems to know what is causing the problem. HP technician thinks she could fix the router problem, but get access to the IP address. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Were you able to fix it?

Your ISP is not to blame here and will not be able to help as this is an internal network issue and not an external one. First level support of HP also know nothing about computers usually, so do not ask them for help.

First you want to find out the IP adress of your computer in the new network and the IP address of the printer. To do that, go to your computer, open the startmenu, type in cmd and hit enter. Now you should see a black window where you type in ipconfig

Let us know the output of this command and then proceed to your printer. On the printer itself you are able to print reports. Look for a report that says Network configuration or Configuration or something similar. Post the output of that as well.

Pictures work too if you are too lazy to type 😉

Thanks so much for your quick response. The IP Address for the computer on the new network is 69.166.94.132; The network rep said this is the public IP; I couldn't figure out the printer's IP because when I looked it up on the printer, it showed IP address Not connected; Network Name: Not available; MAC: 34-64-A9-D7-A6-C0; Host Name: HPD7A6BF; Bonjour Name: HP ENVY 7640 series [D7A6BF]... The HP Network Configuration report indicates the Network Status is "Offline" and the Active Connection Type is "None"; 802.3 Wired: Hardware Address (MAC) 34:64:A9😀7:A6:BF; 802.11 Wireless: Hardware Address (MAC): 34:64:A9😀7:A6:C0; Status: "Disconnected"; Communication Mode: Infrastructure... If you need anything further from the report, I'll be happy to furnish it.

There you have it. You posted the Public IP which we do not need in this case. The printer itself is offline so you need to go on the printer and set it up. Look for Network Setup and set the Network Address or anything that says Adrress or IP to Automatic and then do a report-configuration Page again.

I finally gave up and took the printer to best buy to see if our printer could connect to their network... it would not, nor could the printer find ANY of their several networks... hence we finally just purchased a new printer! As I understand it, it is not usual for the printer to be the problem, but in this case, it was. Thanks for trying to help me!
