Question trying to buy a new cpu

not to long ago i bought a ryzen 5 1600 to put in my computer to find out it didnt work. i still have no idea why other than it was doa because i have a 1300x in the computer now and it works fine. since im assuming the 1600 is dead i was wondering if there was anything else i should try before buying a new cpu just in case its actually something in my computer and not the cpu. i dont have another motherboard to test it on and the guy who does all my computer troubleshooting is basically closed because of the pandemic. any suggestions?

Did you try upgrading the bios before the swap? Also, is the cpu on the motherboard supported cpu list?

i was told that the ryzen 3 1300x needed a later bios than the ryzen 5 and i will check. if you were wondering i have a b350 tomahawk

from what i see the 1600 is compatible with the b350 tomahawk and im going to update the bios anyway because i believe its from 2017 so maybe, just maybe.
