Hey all just got a Gigabyte Z87x OC LGA 1150

I have a i5 3570k LGA 1155 which is obviously too old and doesn't fit. But LGA 1150 is old too I guess? Went to my tech shop and they don't have any i5s that will fit as this board Is a year old. Can't find any on local trade sites

Plus looking at the CPU support list for my board is misleading. Says it supports 4660 4670. Went to get a 4660 but it doesn't support the boards chipset.

Can anyone advise what CPU will definitely fit? So confused. My mainboard died 2 days ago. And the z87 is the replacement. Now I need a new CPU.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm just worried.

A. I live in NZ. Not sure if Newegg ship here
B. I've seen heaps of i5 i7 that support z97 express chipset and H something and what not. But this mobo is z98 express. The guy at the tech shop was adamant I wouldn't find supporting cpus unless on trade sites like eBay. I'd love to just buy something off newrgg and wait so I'll go check their shipping list

Your tech shop sucks. They dont know even the most basic things.
ANY LGA1150 i5 or i7 or i3 will fit your board. Z87 and Z97 have the same CPU socket!
You just need to check if the newest BIOS version is on it, that supports Haswell refresh CPUs. Heironious linked that list and the BIOS version should be stated somewhere on the board, on a sticker. Judging from that list you need at least version F8 or higher.
If the board has an old BIOS version, you just need an old CPU to flash the newest version on it. But every good PC shop should have one laying around and should be able to do that for you for a little money or as a service.

There is no Z98 Express.

The sticker on the board box doesn't state the bios version. Just :
GA-Z87X-OC
INTEL Z87 /rev 1.0
Socket 1150

And I know they won't have any old ones lying around. To flash with.

The CPU I was going to get from them http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=CPUIT4460&name=Intel-Haswell-Core-i5-4460-3.2GHz-6MB-LGA1150--(H8

So if I go buy this in 2hr. Breadboard the mobo.
Hook up the power supply. Plop that CPU in. Ram and my video card. Upon boot will the mobo even work if the bios is z87? Then I could download the new bios and flash it via USB?

All help much appreciated :)

Sorry not z87 bios. I mean if the bios is stock. And doesn't have the update for the refresh. Is there anyway I can boot the board to flash it without an early haswell

If you bought the mainboard new, theres a high chance the most recent BIOS is on it already.
It wont work if the BIOS doesnt recognize your CPU. Some newer boards can be flashed without a CPU, but I dont think there are Z87s that can.

The board was purchased September last year.
Just called my local.

They'll check the bios and if need be flash it for $70 and will take around 14 working days :( :(

Wish there was a way to determine which bios it has without sending it in

Haswell refresh was in May 2014. I think some manufacturers offered new BIOS version much sooner than that actually. March in your case. So theres still a good chance it has the F8 BIOS on it.

So. My friend I got the board off is completely certain he bought it September early October. It is rev 1.0 though?..

So I'm going to pickup that linked CPU. put it in the board. And pray it works.

If not I'll have to get another board by the looks of it
