Trying to find or make a portable display to pair with my older laptops.

I have two older laptops:

• 
  - Older Macbook Air - Has 2x USB 2.0 ports and mini display port

• 
  - Older Surface - Has 1x USB 3.0 port and mini display port

I'd like to get an additional screen to take on the go with me. The problem is that most of them take USB ports, or USB-C.

I'd say most of the time power isn't a problem I have an outlet nearby.

So here's my questions:

1) Are there any portable displays that run off the mini display port (or HDMI) which are easily portable?

2) Is there any way to go from USB 2.0 to USB 3.0? (I'd prefer to use my Macbook, but the USB 2.0 seems to be limiting)

3) Are there any displays that I could "hack" into being portable displays. Something that I could hook up too a small portable stand or tripod, and toss into a case when I'm done. When I search for portable displays all I get are the same few options that don't seem to fit my Laptop.

Please provided some links to a few screens you have already looked at so I can get a better idea of what you are looking for.

What is the MacBook Air's exact model? There is no way to convert USB 2.0 to USB 3.0. If you provide me with the model, I may be able to find another way.
