So here is the issue, I have a house built in 1972, so not a new house, and we just made my office into the nursery and now my desktop has room in between the router and my wifi hardware in my desktop. Now lately, I have had poor connection for online games like Planetside 2 and Star Citizen. Now running ethernet cable from my new office to the living room is not option (wife did not want wires running the house with a kid on the way). So I have researched Powerline adaptors or possible setting up another wifi router in my office. Which would be the better option? I have heard that powerline adaptors only work as well as the wiring and the closer you are to the modem. Will powerline adaptors and overheat and worry about electrical problems? Can I plug my desktop straight into a second wireless router in my office and improve my connection? I have very high speed but I have never faced such poor connection before? Any help would be great!

Solution
Powerline adapter are your best option for games. The newest av2 based ones work better than the older units. If you have tv coax you could consider moca.

You can't just put a wifi router in your new office and it magically fix the wifi problem. It would still need a connection back to the main router. If you mean you want the new router to connect via wifi to the main router that will not help. Your new router will get the same crap signal your current pc does.

Thank you for your response. Will the newer powerline adaptors help with interference allow old wiring and being a room apart? Just want to be sure, before purchasing the product. I want to be able to have the best possible option. Thank you again!

Be nice if it was 100% but even the newest ones have issues for some people. The new ones use the ground wire in addition to the power wires so they have less issues talking between circuits. What tends to mess powerline networks up is something with a motor. I have a shop vac that can kill the older av500 units anyplace in the house.

Even though it tends to be a pain it is a 1 time deal to run ethernet wire through the attic or basement.
