Hello all. I have a problem. I am trying to install the AMD catalyst software that came with my MSI radeon HD 7770 graphics card. and while I try to install it stops and says install failed. with this message

C:\Program Files\ATI\CIM\reports\report.xml

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel.

should be nowhere near this hard to install a card .. with out being there for a hands on I don't know what to say on that now

the card should be near plug and play not grief and misery I would think theres a deeper issue with this like the boards bad- cards bad - windows install issue - something ,but should not be this difficult to do

if you take it in and they get it going post what the deal was with it

I cerrainly will. And I really appreciate yoy trying to troubleshoot this with me. Even though we didnt solve the issue you still tried to help out... thanks

Well here is the verdict. You were right it was an issue with the motherboard. The motherboard wasnt registering the graphics card. So thats why the drivers were failing to install im guessing. They tried a lower end video card and still no life. So they ordered a new motherboard and should be up and running by monday. All that hassle and it was the board lol.

oh I see now heres the real deal on that

some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked or fixed'' bios and may not allow you to change certain hardware as a video card.. this is done to protect them from undue warranty claims and refunds .this is not done to hurt you but to protect them. you really need to see if that upgrade has been proven to work in your model first before you invest money in it .. there are a lot of these threads here at toms to look at some models will allow upgrades and some dont.. and a lot of guys here say ya ya ya when is really no no no...it would be sad you spent $200 on a card that wount post after you installed it as most find out. then get told its your psu and you spend more and end up right back where you are now, but its up to you good luck..

you got to know the the boards in these computers are not like the ones we use to do custom builds witch are open to upgrading with in the boards compatibly . the bios is custom made for there design and just for the parts they authorize to be used on there computers

Ok cool. I know it had an asus in it. And hopefully the guy at the shop takes that into consideration. He had a gaming pc and was playing games when I walked in. So hopefully he knows that lol

We tested the card on another pc and it worked fine. So its not an issue with the graphics card. We also put a different card in my computer. And no joy

hey, just to give you an update. I got the new motherboard installed. and plugged the Card in and It was ready to rock instantly. I had no troubles. and no problems with installing the driver. so all is good now. you were right about the Gateway stock motherboard to. actually talked to the guy at the shop and he confirmed that as well. so! I can now begin killing zombies and bandits at will. again thanks for the help and info I actually learned a lot and that is as invaluable as anything. If you play games at all or have steam you should add me! steam name is esoxkid06
