Trying to install DD-WRT on WRT1900AC

How should I go about installing DD-WRT on the Linksys WRT1900AC? I've heard you can install via the stock firmware update tool but it hasn't worked for me so far, any ideas?

The WRT1900AC is a supported router. However the installation process can be tricky.

Narrow down the "hasn't worked for me" to something more specific to an error message or error code perhaps.
