I was getting the missing cd/dvd driver message when trying to install windows on a laptop. I tried an external dvd drive and had the same message. I moved the dvd drive from a USB port labeled ss to a USB port without this labeling and Windows 7 installed with no further errors. Thanks for the posting of this fix. It helped me very much.

I too had the same issue trying to load Win7 on a new ssd drive on my Latitude E7440. Unfortunately, this model only has USB3 drives. Finally, during the install, I decided to delete all partitions and format the new partition from the drive using the Win7 installer and everything went smooth after that.

I could kiss you. Thinking it was a SSD driver missing or something I've been trying to include the mobo drivers in my ISO of my installation DVD.

So simple.....

VBGuy81 you are my hero!!!

I accidently deleted my boot partition whilst repairing a friend's computer and could not fathom, this CD/DVD error! I tried everything. Ended up deleting everything and repartioning with GParted and still same error! I was just about to try to install XP as post above yours suggested, when my eye wandered to USB 3.0 and it made sense! I guess I must have known this previously and forgotten it because it felt familiar and I knew exactly which port was my 2.0! I sit typing this on my spare laptop, a very happy bunny, watching my main laptop install a nice fresh copy of Windows 7!

Huge Thanks!

Gav

Thanks, turned out my install disk was dirty. Cleaning it made the message go away.

Simply turn off the USB 3.0 services in the BIOS. You should be able to boot and install from a USB device after that.
