Trying to locate "System Restore Points" (Windows XP)

System Restore points are saved in C:\System Volume Information... hidden system folder and accessible only after making it visible and configuring the Security in Windows XP Professional, and loging on in Safe Mode in Windows XP Home Edition.

1. Making the folder visible and disabling Simple File Sharing in Windows XP Professional Edition:

In My computer or Explorer:
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide extensions for known file types option.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
and uncheck "Simple File Sharing (recommended)"
Click yes to confirm that you really want to do this.
Click Apply.
Click OK.

2. The System Volume Information folder is unaccessible by default so you need to configure the Security to access it in Windows XP Professional... in Windows XP Home Edition you need to logon in Safe Mode.

To access System Volume Information In Windows XP Professional:
Go to C:\System Volume Information\Properties\Security tab. Click on "Add"\New\Search now\select Administrators\click OK\click OK. now you can access the folder but... be carefull on what you do because deleting, moving or altering any file could make the corresponding restore point not work. If you want to delete older restore points, you can do it by reducing the allocated disk space in Control Panel\System\System Restore\Select the drive being monitored\click Settings\Move the slider to the desired disk space to use.
