Hi all,

I have just finished my new build for my flight sim and installed 2 x RX580 red dragon cards.

I am trying to setup my existing multi displays to these cards and not having much success.

On my last rig I had 2 x HD7970's and everything worked great - I had 3 x 23" monitors connected via a TH2GO analogue unit, also 1x17" monitor, 1 x 42" HDTV and one projector. I did have to use an active mini dispayport adapter too.

That was with Win 7 64bit. My new build runs on Win 10 64bit. Unfortunately the TH2GO isn't supported in Win10.

So, I have been trying various combinations/connectors from the displays to the cards but it doesn't seem to work very well.

I've been connecting the 23" monitors via active VGA to displayport adapters to one card along with the 17" monitor and HDTV to the same card. The projector I have been connecting to the other card on its own just as I did on my other rig.

Up to now, I either get all displays working but they are unstable - they keep winking on and off - or I cant seem to get them all working.

Is there anyone who can perhaps advise me how best to connect my displays please?

Im trying to keep one card just for the projector which I use for the outside view but don't have to I guess.

I am now also using P3Dv4 flight sim as opposed to FSX.

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers,

Rory

Solution
I think I have solved the problem. I went through the settings with a fine toothcomb and noticed that in amd global settings the crossfire was set to on. Turning it off has now enabled all displays to work.

Many thanks.

Rory
Hello, You should try to use the 3 DisplayPorts on the rx580 or get an extender ( link below ) and then get a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker set, since I do not recommend stereo for FS setup. The Speakers depend if you want audio or not and if your monitors have speakers or not.

If you have 3 monitors I recommend 5.1
If you have 6 monitor ( 6x Display Ports from 2 rx580's ) I recommend 7.1

Many thanks for replying :) but that doesn't really answer my questions. I have 2 x RX580's, 8gb. I have been connecting my 3 x 23" monitors to the display ports via the active VGA to Display port adapters. My problems start when I also try and connect the HDTV, projector and 17" monitor as well. Are you saying I should be buying adapters to enable these to be connected to the other 3 display ports of the 2nd card?

Hello, are you using VGA port for the Monitor
I have to know because when you tell me we can go on further

VGA to DisplayPort could be causing the problem
I recommend trying standard DisplayPorts without the Adapter

Also, specify the Monitors that you are using an HDTV
Also, is the TV 4K or not

Hiya K,

Ok here we go. My 3 x 23" monitors only have VGA connectors, not sure why as they are just over 4 years old I think. These are AcerX233H's. I have been connecting them to the displayports of one card using active vga to dp adapters.

My 17" monitor again is only vga connector and this I have been connecting via vga to hdmi adapter. It's a Dell monitor.

The hdtv is not 4k and this has a hdmi connector and I have been connecting it to the hdmi on the 2nd card.

The projector again is vga and I have been connecting this to the dvi connection on the 2nd card.

I was hoping that the problem may just be down to which card I am connecting which display.

Cheers,

Rory

Hello Rory,

If the RX580 have VGA connectors try using VGA to VGA not VGA to DP
Again i recommend Speakers since VGA or DP don't carry audio as HDMI does.

So if i understand 3x23'' monitors are for FS
But i dont really Get TV and 17'' Monitor or What they do

The RX580 has the following inputs...1 x DVI,1 X HDMI, 3 X Displayports. I have built a home cockpit which runs in 2D mode. The 3 x 23" monitors are for the main instrument panel, the projector is for the outside view, the HDTV is used for the overhead panel and the smaller monitor is used for other instruments such as fmc.

I faced a similar but not as bad, problem on my old rig and this was solved by using an active adapter to one of the ports.

However, I do have active VGA to Displayport adapters already. I don't really have a problem with sound, I have a 5:1 sound system connected which is just fine when you consider I only really hear engine sounds and ATC/pilot voices.

I know how to build my pc but don't really understand about how to correctly connect up the multiple displays. I was sort of hoping that you may yourself use dual cards and similar number of monitors/displays.

Cheers!

Hello Rory,

You may consider picking up 1 x DVI to VGA cable and test it
if it Dosent work ill figure something else out

However, if it does work you can pick up more

Thx,
Kuba

MERGED QUESTION
Question from Kessler1 : "Problems connecting up RX580's"

Is your edition of Windows 10 Activated? When you right click on the desktop, and go to Display Settings, and then to the Multiple displays area of that window, do you see your monitors show up? You may have to click on the monitor, right click, and then say Extend Desktop to this Monitor. That should activate the output, and set it as a section of your desktop.

Guys,

Many thanks for replying. My windows 10 is indeed activated! My monitors only show up on one card when I right click the desktop.

My full specs are:-

I7 6700K Skylake OC to 4.4 gig,
Asus Z-270 A Prime motherboard,
32gb Corsair Vengeance black DDR4,
2 x Powercolor RX580 8gb oc Red Dragon gpu's,
Samsung 850 Evo SSD,
WD 2TB HDD,
Corsair 1200AXI PSU,
HAF X Case,
oh, and a Noctua NH-D14 heatsink.

Some more info for you on the problem.....The pc will boot up on one monitor from either card via either vga - dvi-d active adapter or vga - DP active adapter.

If I connect a monitor to the first card and one to the second card, it will only boot up using the monitor on the first card and not recognise the monitor attached to the second card.

Also, I f I connect one monitor to either card using a vga - DP active adapter, it won't post with the option of letting me enter the bios. When I then connect a vga - dvi-d active adapter then it will.

My gpu's are attached on the motherboard as follows.....first card in PCIE 3.0/2.0 X 16 1_ slot, second card in PCIE 3.0/2.0 X 16_2 slot.

update: I can also boot up from either card using 3 monitors connected by vga-DP active adapter. However if I swap one of the monitor connections for a vga -dvi-d adapter, it will still boot up but the mouse curser starts to stick for some reason.

Many thanks,

Rory

Another update. At the moment I have one monitor connected via vga - dvi-d active to the first card and two monitors connected via vga - DP active to the second card. The pc boots up using the first card and monitor but when I sign in the first display goes blank and the two monitors on the second card display the desktop. Right clicking the desktop and entering amd settings show only these two monitors and not the first one.

I think I have solved the problem. I went through the settings with a fine toothcomb and noticed that in amd global settings the crossfire was set to on. Turning it off has now enabled all displays to work.

Many thanks.
