Hi all,

Currently at a friends house and they only use an ethernet cable from a router to their PC. They want me to setup their WiFi. I checked and the router does have WiFi capabilities (it even says the name of the SSID on the back of the router). The name of the router is Sagemcom F@ST 3184. I am trying to setup the WiFi but when I try to login to the router, it doesn't connect. Here's the weird thing, the ipv4 address of the default gateway is 77.X.X.X, not 192.168.X.X and also the IPV6 address is also listed in the default gateway. I tried 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1, and the default gateway listed and none of them connect.

Also the WiFi light on the router isn't lit up. There is a WiFi looking button, but when I press on it, nothing happens. I also already tried resetting the router, but nothing happened. I am not sure how to get the WiFi working. Let me know if any other information would be helpful.

Is there only a single pc in use. Could they have set the router to run in bridge mode.

It would be very unusual for a pc to be given a ip and gateway of 77.x.x.x. This is a public IP and tends to be only used on the internet and not in the lan side. If there is no router then the ISP gives the IP to the pc rather than the router. This can only be done of the sagecom box is running as a modem/bridge and not a router.

From what i can tell 192.168.1.1 is the correct IP to use but it could have been changed and I am not sure what happens when you set the device into bridge mode.

You could try a factory reset on the router which should change it back to 192.168.1.1 but it leaves the question of why they set it to bridge mode if they did that in the first place.

Only a single PC in use. I already tried factory resetting the router (Twice, first time I pressed the button with a paperclip for 15 seconds, second time tried the 30-30-30 reset method). IP still remained at 77.X.X.X.

Is there a way to check if the router is running in bridge mode?
