I found an old Visual Land Tablet, still boots up. Its on its way on being a monitor for my dslr but I dont want to download apps because of the possible latency, also the cost of finding and potentially buying an app. I have looked up, there is one for Canon Cameras but that would mean I have to get more cables.

The main question is, can I change the HDMI port that is already in the camera to become input not output. I already looked at the settings on the tablet, it's to project the tablet to another monitor not vise versa. I was wondering if there was a hack or another way to do what I want. I am pretty handy and have a lot of time on my hand. If that means learning to program or take apart the hardware. Any advice or suggestions? Anything that I need to know in order to maybe complete this project? Books, videos? Classes?

A USB port on the tablet could probably be used to display an image from the DSLR, but you will likely need an app, and I suspect there would be at least a small amount of latency. One such free app is described here, for example, though I haven't tried it, and I suspect the compatibility of any given app will depend on what camera you have...

As for the adapter cable, you might already have one around. It just needs to convert the small USB port on your tablet to a full-sized one so that you can connect the USB cord from your camera. One might have even come with the tablet, or some other phone or accessory you might have. If not, they...

One might have even come with the tablet, or some other phone or accessory you might have. If not, they can be found on eBay for a couple dollars or so shipped.

One other thing worth noting is that some older tablets used a mini-usb connection rather than the micro-usb that is now more common, so there's a chance that you may need a slightly different adapter depending on the tablet.
