I've got a 43 inch Samsung TV purchased maybe about 4 years ago. The owner's manual does not mention the word bluetooth anywhere so I'm assuming my TV does not have it. But I found out that you can buy a box that can turn your TV into bluetooth.

Here is the link to the box:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...&linkId=797e90d3ff5b733f091919339d1c2fa6&th=1

The box mentions that it is bluetooth 5.

Here is an idea for the bluetooth headphones:

My question is when I buy a set of bluetooth headphones, does it matter what version of bluetooth the headphones are? Would the headphones also need to be bluetooth 5, or is that irrelevant?

Bluetooth is backwards compatible, so it will work.

What typically matters more are supported codecs of the headphones and transmitter, the common ones being SBC and AAC for universal compatibility. Proprietary ones being Sony's LDAC, Qualcomm's aptX version (LL/Low Latency being the one advertised on that transmitter), Huawei's LHDC and the list goes on. Manufacturers have to license these to use, so it's harder to find a good match of headphones that support the codec(s) you want, and transmitter.

They all vary in bitrate/depth for quality, but for TV watching I'd consider latency to be the bigger factor since the delay is noticeable.

A general list of the low/low-ish latency ones: aptX LL, aptX Adaptive, LC3, LHDC LL
A general list of the ones with noticeable latency: SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, LDAC, LHDC

That's my 2 cents, but bottom line is still that it will work. If you're curious to see how sensitive you are to the latency, I'd recommend just borrowing a pair from or friend or what have you, watch some videos on your phone and have a look.

I'd also add from personal experience that you do get used to the latency. If it's just for late-night TV while the kids are sleeping, I wouldn't really worry about any of this at all lol.

I would mainly want to play Xbox video games. Not multi-player but just single-player gaming. There are lots of headphones on Amazon and eBay, but many don't say the codec.

Like I'm looking for aptxLL on the headphones but many don't say.

I think I found a pair that would be a good choice.
