[SOLVED] Tv connected to sound system, sound cuts out when there isn't a continuous signal

Just got a new tv and this didn't happen at all with my old one.
The sound system only has on optical audio and one hdmi connection.
Hdmi is apparently not even working since I can't select it in the tv settings, even though it's connected to the ARC.

The optical audio does work, but if there is not a continuous audio signal the sound cuts out. This means, when navigating a menu there are no click sounds. When starting a show, the first 2 seconds are silent, or even during a show, if there is silence for a second, the sound cuts out again.
It's basically on stand by mode ("if there is no sound I will deactivate the line. oh, there's sound now. Give me a second to activate it again") So it turns off fast but has a delay turning on again.

I read that I should about the firmware, but it's up to date, and make sure to set it to dolby digital, but that one also can't be selected.

Any help would be appreciated.
