TV does not detect PC but PC detects TV

I've just connected my PC to my TV (Panasonic Viera TC-L42E30) via HDMI. My PC detected the TV and I set the displays to be extended with my PC as the main display. I can see that it works because I can drag my browser outside of my monitor. However, the TV display is black with a floating gray box saying "No signal. Ensure that the device is turned on and properly connected to the TV's input." even though I selected the correct HDMI input with the remote. Why is this?

Try a different hdmi port, on the back of your TV.
This (for some reason) worked for me and my panasonic viera TV.

I've tried that to no avail. That has worked for me before as well, but not this time unfortunately.

I wouldn't know how that would help, since he selected the right input.

I turned the cable around: I unplugged the cable at both ends, plugged the end that was previously connected to the TV to the PC, and then plugged the end that was previously connected to the PC to the TV. Now it works.
