TV not showing the edges of the screen

We got a little PC to hook up to our TV via HDMI, when we do so we are missing the lower, upper, and sides of the screen its to much for the TV or something. I have tried different resolutions but that doesnt help, its a 1080p TV and its a panasonic I could not find a way to adjust the display setting on the TV. I am about to do a driver update and I would appriciate any help.

THe video card is a 9200

Ahh yes I see now. My friend bought a Panasonic 50" TV a number of years back and has the same problems you have as your TV being a 720p doesn't support full 1900x1080 native resolution but rather a not so common standard 1366x768.

The trick is two fold:

1. Get your computer to put out the 1366x768 native resolution of the panel
2. Get your TV to accept the signal 'as is' and not process it.

Because I haven't tried with this model TV all I can do is pass along this link:

It had some good info about what's going on and a few suggestions to get your PC to output the correct resolution

Cheers
I had the same problem on my Samsung LCD.

All HDTV's do a little bit of digital overscan (they crop the top, bottom and sides of the incoming picture, proces it and resize back to 1080p). You don't notice this on regular TV programming but with a PC it's quite obvious. You need to enable 1:1 pixel mapping.

How I did this was go into the menu and there's a section to label your inputs. I labelled the HDMI my computer is hooked up to as 'PC'. Simply by labelling the input as PC it turns off all processing of the picture and doesn't overscan so you get a crisp picture.

Cheers

Unfortunately there is no PC label just Skip, VCR, DVD, PVR, Cable, and a few others i tried them all to no luck.

The model is a TH-50PE8U apperantly only 720p. but running it at 1280 x 720 doesnt help. Windows Says 1280x720 is native but both windows and the nVidia control panel can run up to 1920x1080 the the picture will still display wrong (but cripser) What should I do

So i contacted Panasonic Support the told me to play with the format button ont eh remote and I did switched it to full switched the resolution to 1280x720 used the nvidia control panel and adjusted it to 1212x686 and it all fits. I really shoudlnt have to do that though.

Solution
Great thread here and thanks to all that provided direction. I wanted to share some updated info for those using more modern Panasonic (and perhaps other) TVs. I have a TG-P65GT30. I had the same issue (obviously as I landed here). As it turns out, if your TV has the THX video setting option, it makes the automatic adjustments for you to size appropriately. All of the other settings (Vivid, Standard, Cinema, etc) cause the overscanning conditions described in this thread. The THX setting resolved instantly for me.

Similar problem with a panasonic "Vieta" or some such. This tv/monitor has a setting to turn off overscan (menu->Setup->Other Settings->16:9 Overscan->Off) - that fixed it.
Alternatively, on my mac with OS 10.8, the "displays" system preferences has a slider called "underscan". This adds a black border around the edges and can effectively counter the overscan the TV is doing.

Changing the map on HDMI 1 to PC worked for me on my Samsung TV. Thank you Sir :)

I have an older Sharp Aquos (LC-37D43U), which has a native resolution of 1366 x 768. At that resolution, not only were the edges of the screen cut off, but the picture wasn't clear. Everything is perfect after changing my resolution to 1360 x 768.

i have Panasonic Viera and i turned off 16:9 overscan. but it didn't change anything. help me.

Hi friends

Its really a very troublesome problem that we frequently face while connecting lappy to LED's & most of the solutions available on internet dont work for many.

But let me tell you one thing, the issue is not with your laptop settings & HDMI cable, the solution lies in the tv settings that need to be tweaked for a perfect 1 is to 1 picture. There is no need to change the name of input method( as someone suggested changing hdmi to pc.Just get your LED remote there you will find Quick tab/button,pressing the same will open up a window where you will find some setting for picture size, just select native/actual & its done.no more trouble & enjoy a picture perfect on your tv..

enjoy😉

If you have an Nvidia graphics card for instance the control panel for the Nvidia card has adjustable sliders that let you expand or contract the display. Take a look in the settings area. Actually quite cool.

if you have an NVIDIA Graphics card you can just go to NVIDIA Control panel > Adjust desktop size and position. and once you are there just select your desired screen / TV you want to rescale to fit your monitor of choice.

Ps. For all i know this probably works on every type of graphics card so its worth giving a try.

Thank you! This info helped me find the answer on my TCL Roku TV as well when I had my laptop hooked up via HDMI. On mine, simply labeling the input as computer does not automatically change the overscan. You have to select the computer input first, then press * on the remote to pull up options. Click "Advanced picture settings..." Scroll down to "Picture size" and change to from "Auto" to "Direct".

Hope it works for others as well!

WARNING: With Panasonic TV (at least my model TH-P50G10A), if you are turning off overscan on a HDMI port, know that the overscan option is not in the menu for HDMI3, that is the HDMI port on the side of the TV. It is available in the Other Settings menu of HDMI1, HDMI2, and TV.
