Hi

I have 2 faulty Corsair PSUs. I'm using a $10 power supply tester that has been shown to work with another working PSU.

One PSU is an AX850 Gold and the other a TX850.

The AX850 does not fire up the tester at all. No fan, nothing. Whereas the TX850 will start up the tester, but fail after about 30 seconds or so. The fan does not spin up on the TX850 either.

Is it worth trying to repair these 2 PSUs? I'm thinking that the TX850 is shutting down due to overheating, as it will power up again after letting it sit for a few hours.

I paid money for the AX850 (about $50 or $60) but the TX850 was a freebie. I'm personally thinking of e-wasting them.

I hope that was a long time ago. If you paid $50 recently for a dead PSU, ask for a refund.

I've recapped a few PSUs, but only to prove it was possible. If it's not a standard ATX form factor, but something far more esoteric and difficult to replace, repairing might make sense.

If you're not a repair technician or electronics engineer, steer well clear. There's a reason why they print "No user serviceable parts inside" on the label. Stay safe.

Both power supplies have the 'zero fan' mode when there is no real loading the fan does not turn on.
