Hello,
Probably a stupid question, but please help.
I have 2 i5 processors with me, which are from 2 of my laptops. I am planning to purchase a new dektop, as they are upgradable from time to time.
My question is, is there any chance that there is a motherboard that can support both these processors together ? I mean like i can put both the processors into one board and form a new desktop ?

Solution

Since they are laptop processors, You might find a mini-ITX motherboard that supports them. But I would say just to attempt to sell them to somebody that needs a CPU for a laptop.
No. A dual socket motherboard uses chips that are DESIGNED for dual socket. Intel Xeon E5-2xxx CPUs for instance. They have dedicated hardware that lets the two CPUs communicate because a task could be running on CPU1 but need access to RAM that is physically connected to CPU2. Or to do I/O through PCIe lanes connected to CPU2.

Ok, Thanks for the reply.
Is there any way i can utilise both these processors ?
